Gold Medal Ales are produced monthly
in recognition of some of the 'greats' of history. The solid gold Jules Rimet trophy, awarded to the winners of the football world cup, was stolen from an exhibition on 20th March 1966. After a bungled ransom operation the trophy was found a week later, under a hedge, by Pickles, the dog, out walking with his owner. Brazil said that it would never happen in their country because their thieves loved football too much. However, it disappeared in Rio seven years later, never to be seen again. Pickles was voted 'dog of the year', got a silver medal plus a year's free food and was at Wembley when England won the cup in July. |
